NetWellness partner universities, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), the University of Cincinnati (UC), and The Ohio State University (OSU), will receive $750,000 in federal funding to support NetWellness. This Internet health resource is offered jointly by Ohio's leading research universities. Founded in 1995 at UC, NetWellness originated in the earliest days of the World Wide Web and was one of the first health Web sites. The partnership has continued to flourish and offers an important, unbiased source of health information to the public.
Funding was secured in the federal budget through the leadership of Sen. George V. Voinovich (R-OH), Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) and Rep. Dave Hobson (R-Springfield). To read more please click here.
April is Minority Health Month in Ohio. Are there health differences between people of various ethnic groups? Experts are now agreeing that yes there are. Do you know what these differences are? If you are not sure, this is a great month to visit NetWellness. NetWellness' African American Health Center in particular discusses many of the diseases to which African Americans are more susceptible. Learn what some of these are and what can be done to protect against some of the more common diseases.
NetWellness would like to welcome the following new experts: Edna Jones, MD and Laura Harris, PhD, ATC/L. Dr. Jones is the Director of Parkside Behavioral Healthcare and is a member of the Department of Family Medicine in the College of Medicine at the Ohio State University. She will be answering addiction questions in the Smoking Cessation/Tobacco Abuse area of NetWellness. Dr. Harris is a Visiting Assistant Professor and Adjunct Instructor in the Athletic Training Division of the School of Allied Medical Professions at the Ohio State University. Her specialty is sports psychology, and she will be serving in the Athletic Training area of NetWellness.
NetWellness would like to extend greetings to a large group of returning experts. Experts in the Alzheimer's disease area are: Douglas Scharre, MD, Director, Memory Disorders Clinic and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology, David Beversdorf, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurobehavior and Neurology, Leopold Liss, MD, Clinical Professor of Neurology, and Rebecca Davis, RN, LISW, Social Worker. All are members of the Department of Neurology in the College of Medicine at the Ohio State University.
The Smoking Cessation/Tobacco Abuse topic welcomes returning experts Karen Ahijevych, PhD, RN, Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the Ohio State University and Abdel Rahim Mohammad, DDS, MS, MPH, FAAOM, FACD, Professor of Clinical Geriatric Dentistry in the College of Dentistry at the Ohio State University.
NetWellness would also like to warmly welcome the return of Rama Jayanthi, MD, Director, Urology Residency Education in the Department of Pediatric Urology at Children's Hospital-Columbus. Dr. Rayanthi will be answering questions in Children's Urinary and Genital Problems.
