Dr. Katherine Dryland Vig was born, raised and educated in England. She received her dental degree from Dundee Dental School, University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Her orthodontic training was at Eastman Dental Hospital in London where she served on the faculty for ten years. She moved to the United States with her husband and two daughters in 1976 and served on the Orthodontic faculty at UNC from 1977-1984. She became a member of ACPA in 1980 and joined the cleft palate team at UNC. She moved to the University of Michigan in 1984 and co-directed the Dentofacial Program and served on their cleft palate team and directed the orthodontic services at the University of Michigan Medical center as Associate Professor of Orthodontics in the Dental School. Dr. Dryland Vig became Professor and Chair of Orthodontics at The University of Pittsburgh in 1990 and later became Head of the division of Pediatrics and Developmental Dental Science and Associate Director of the Cleft Palate Team at Pittsburgh.

Dr. Dryland Vig moved to The Ohio State University in 1994 to chair the Section of Orthodontics and is Section chief of Crthodontic Services at Children's Hospital, Columbus. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. She has published extensively in the orthodontic literature and has a major interest in the management and treatment of patients with Cleft palate and Craniofacial anomalies. She has over 100 publications and co-authored three text books, most recently Facial Clefts and Craniosynostosis which was published in 1996. She is past President of the IADR Craniofacial Biology Group and past President of the American Cleft Palate Association. She serves on the AAO Council on Orthodontic Education and serves as the representative for the GLAO Board.
