Dr. Han is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Periodontology in the School of Dental Medicine at Case University. She is a researcher who studies the relationship between periodontal (gum) diseases and preterm birth. Her research has focused on identifying the ways that the bacteria in the mouth that cause periodontal disease can cause babies to be born too early. This research has been done in mice, which other researchers can use as a model for how the process may work in humans. Dr. Han has published articles in journals like Infection and Immunity, Oral Microbiology Immunology, and the Journal of Molecular Biology. She did her doctoral work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and graduated with a PhD in Microbiology.
