Karen Ahijevych is co-director of the Nursing Center for Tobacco Intervention, along with Mary Ellen Wewers. The goal of this site, funded by the American Nurses Foundation, is to provide clinicians with information to more effectively deliver tobacco use and dependence treatment. Aspects of Dr. Ahijevych's research are conducted in the Biobehavioral Laboratory in the College of Nursing. Research Interest: Nicotine dependence; cigarette smoking topography; factors influencing nicotine metabolism in women; effects of menthol on smoke constituent exposure including nicotine, cotinine and carbon monoxide; focus on these factors among African American women; tailored stage-specific smoking cessation interventions Visit the College of Nursing Directory for more information about Dr. Ahijevych.
