How Many Supplements Are Too Much?

Question: My husband is an ER doctor and takes between 125-150 vitamins and supplements per day which I personally think is excessive. He has been doing it for 10+ years. Is it possible for the body to absorb the benefits of ALL these supplements in one day or does some go to waste? Given that he`s an ER doct . . .
Answer: Sorry, but there is no way to know without examining him and his lab tests.
Ask an Expert: Glen Aukerman MD, Complementary Medicine

Chlorine of The Stomach and Carbonate of Mg

Question: After ingesting magnesium carbonate or magnesium oxide, presumably magnesium chloride will form in the stomach by taking the chlorine from the stomach`s hydrochloric acid. Will the chlorine eventually be returned to the stomach as hydrochloric acid after the body uses or stores the magnesium?
Answer: This would happen in a test tube but not in the stomach due to the protein buffering content.
Ask an Expert: Glen Aukerman MD, Complementary Medicine
