What Causes Blanchable Erythema?

Question: The bottoms of both feet (including my toes) turn blood red when I walk, and hurt. (When I rest the soles of my feet get less red.) The rheumatologist said it was called "blanchable erythema," because when he presed on the redness, it turned white. Please explain what causes this and if it . . .
Answer: Thank you for visiting NetWellness. I would check with a podiatrist or a vascular medicine specialist if the rheumatologist is unable to answer your questions.
Ask an Expert: Jean Starr MD, Vascular Surgery

Vein Removal after DVT

Question: I had a DVT in my Rt lower calf 14 years ago. At the time, the physicians related it to birth control pills and an eight hour road trip with few stops to walk. I took six months of Coumadin. I am continuing to have pain and swelling in this leg. I wear pressure socks, exercise and have controlled HT . . .
Answer: I would recommend an evaluation by a vascular surgeon with an interest in vein therapies. There are many options. You may find a vascular surgeon at the Society for Vascular Surgery. Good luck!
Ask an Expert: Jean Starr MD, Vascular Surgery

Hard Vein Lump from IV

Question: A couple of months ago I had and IV on the back of my hand just below my wrist. There is a hard lump that appears to be on/in the vein at the IV site. Is this a very dangerous blood clot or just a side effect of IV? Should I have it taken care of?
Answer: This sometimes happens after an IV and usually is self-limited, but if it worsens, then you should seek a doctor's advice.
Ask an Expert: Jean Starr MD, Vascular Surgery

Question: Hi Dr Jean, Is there anyway I can get someone to save me? I have a daughter to bring up and this is torture. Everyday I have to live for her but my room for pain is limited. Obviously since this is so close to throat what are the options. 2nd I meant they retied my juggular vein. Where the pins are . . .
Answer: Your pain is quite unusual and requires the evaluation of a pain therapist, if a vascular surgeon has already ruled out a vascular problem.
