What kind of Physical Therapy regimen?
What kind of exercises can you recommend as physical therapy for a PD patient in their second year since diagnosis? I currently walk three miles 5 days/week and do floor exercises with arm stretches and light weights. I have trouble with dexterity and right arm & leg movement, swallowing, and gait. I am 53 and in good health.
It is clear that mild to moderate excercise is of great benefit in PD. You already are doing much that is right. Swimming is another excellent excercise as it allows for good range of motion around the major joints and is a low-impact activity. Details on excercise regimens for PD patients are available in booklets published by various PD organizations. For address information please see the PD FAQ on this site.
