Smoking and Tobacco

Want to help others quit, but how?

06/28/1999

Question:

I would like to help some of my co-workers who smoke to quit, what are some of the best ways to help without being perceived as an annoyance?

Answer:

This is a very good question! I think that the most important approach is to simply ask them if they are interested in anything you could offer to help them stop smoking now. Many smokers have mixed feelings about stopping. They may welcome your support and encouragement, providing them with helpful written information on stopping, offers to exercise together, sharing low-calorie snacks, etc. Talk it over with them, and follow their lead. Good luck!
