Pregnancy after Abortion

11/21/1999

Question:

I recently had an abortion on 10/15/99. I had sex almost two weeks later but used a spermicide. Is there any chance of getting pregnant right after an abortion? Also, when should I receive my first period?

Answer:

It is possible to become pregnant shortly after an abortion. It is more likely that you have not had your period since the procedure. It may take up to 8 weeks to have your period start after any type of pregnancy (abortion, miscarriage, ectopic or delivery).

If there is any doubt in your mind I suggest you see your physician who can do a pregnancy test.
