Treating Gum Diease11/30/1999 |
Currently, are there any alternative treatments for gum diease?
Periodontal disease [gum disease] is caused by the deposition of dental plaque on tooth surfaces. Dental plaque is formed of bacteria and other materials. The recommended treatment of gum disease is to scale and remove these deposits, since its formation causes destruction of the fibers that attach teeth to the surrounding boney socket; therefore, visiting a dentist twice a year is recommended to remove these deposits. Currently the use of antibacterial agents are being investigated as an adjunct [combined] therapy.
