Fillings and Licken Planus12/06/1999 |
I have licken planus and it is effected by both gold, silver and amalgamated (sp) fillings, what can I get?
Lichen planus is an autoimmune phenomenon that manifests in the mouth and/or skin. It affects approximately 2% of the population. If there are no symptoms then no treatment is necessary; however, if it flares up, causing a burning sensation, then an appropriate diagnostic work up is necessary. Treatment is usually with a topical corticosteroid. Metal fillings of gold and silver in the mouth may cause a weak galvanic current which has been reported to slow the healing process.
