Average weight and height

02/10/2000

Question:

Could you please send me a list of average weight for certain heights of female teenagers ages 15 to 16?

Answer:

In general, females should weight 100 pounds for the first 5 feet of height and 5 pounds for every inch beyond the 5 feet. For example, if your teenager was 5 feet 5 inches tall, her recommended weight would be about 125 pounds plus or minus 10%. These are only general guidelines and do not take into account muscle mass. Muscle does weigh more than fat, therefore, someone who has more muscle will weigh more despite a similar body frame. Focus on a healthy body size which does not require significant dietary restriction and maintain a weekly exercise program. A focus on absolute weight is rarely the most successful approach to achieving and maintaining a healthy body. Good Luck.
