High Blood Pressure

IMMUNE SYSTEM DISORDER?

02/14/2000

Question:

I`m 46 yrs old, and diagnosed with PD syndrom 7 years ago. Main symptoms are right arm stiffness, slowness of movement, and speech difficuties. I get meds: Sinemet, Requip, Jumex. I often get troathache, bronhitis, caugh. I have high blood pressure, get drugs Norvasc and Coverex. Now an X-ray exam found severel enlarged limph nodules in my chest, in mediastinum and lungs, both side. Seems, it`s sarcoidosis, or something worse. I had bronhoscopy and mediastinoscopy with biopsy, result will have within 10 days. I`m concerned about my condition, I`m always tired ( chronic fatigue??), get too much drugs vith different side effects. I have restless leg synndrom too, since more than 30 years. Don`t you think, there is too much unknown caused chronic diseases in my age? Is it possible to study my condition in general, multidistiplinary? May be the key is in my immune system? Which specialist ready and able to manage me to find the right way to cure? ( I`m writing from Hungary, sorry for poor English....) Please help me if you have some idea, because I don`t want to give up, I want to fight for my health, let me know, how to start??

Thank You

Answer:

It appears that you suffer from Parkinsonism. There are several possible causes of that syndrome, and a neurologist would be the best person to decide on the necessary diagnostic tests and treatment.

Hypertension is not directly associated with Parkinsonism. Hypertension is a common disease and it is likely that you have two independent diseases.

Sarcoidosis does not cause hypertension, but can involve the heart or the nervous system. Sarcoidosis can have many different manifestations and is sometimes difficult to diagnose. It is most likely caused by a hyperactive immune system. A Pulmonary Specialist is usually the best person to consult.
