Pregnancy

Yeast

03/03/2000

Question:

I am searching for info on treating yeast while trying to concieve. What is safe etc.

Answer:

Yeast infections only need to be treated if they are uncomfortable and if it really is a yeast infection. Approximately 50% of women who believe they have a vaginal yeast infection because of symptoms of itching and discharge do not have yeast infections.

In general, it is best to avoid any medication while trying to conceive or when pregnant. The vaginal preparations (such as Monistat, Trazol, Mycelex) would not harm a pregnancy but may impair your ability to become pregnanct by effecting sperm function and transport.

I would suggest that you see your physician to be sure you have a yeast infection and then discuss possible treatment with that physician.
