Psoas muscle04/05/2000 |
Had a successful L thr in Oct. Suddenly sharp pain when I walk in upper L leg where connected to pelvis. Chiropractor thinks psoas muscle. Any suggestions as to what I do aside from contacting orthopedist? Thanks
Re your new onset proximal lower extremity pain. It is possible that it could be a problem w/ the iliopsoas, but I think it might be best to check with the Orthopaedist first. The position of the prosthetic hip might be checked to make sure no shift in alignment has occurred. If not, they could also advise you re any restrictions/limitations re the stretching of the iliopsoas that is safe to do without disrupting your hip replacement. This stretching could be done by a Physical Therapist initially, with a home program prescribed after ( with or without modalities like moist heat or ultrasound). If the symptoms are not resolving, you may need further diagnostic tests to evaluate. This might include bloodwork to rule out inflammation/or less likely infection. It may also need an EMG ( electromyography) to check your iliopsoas or upper low back nerve roots, or an MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging) to check on the muscle and pelvis area if symptoms persist or worsen.
