Burning mouth syndrome06/08/2000 |
My Mom has had burning sores in her mouth for over a month. She has been to numerous doctors and dentist. They have ruled out thrush or yeast infections. I have noticed something about "burning mouth syndrome". What can be done for this condition? She is miserable and it doen`t seem the doctors or dentist can find a cause or cure. She is on several medications, but nothing different with her medications this past month. Most of the medications, she has been on over a year.
In your question, you describe your mother as having "burning sores". This implies that there are detectable lesions or possibly ulcers that burn or feel uncomfortable.Burning mouth syndrome typically occurs in the absence of any detectable change or abnormality of the affected areas of the mouth, usually the tongue. So the presence of sores usually means that a patient does not have burning mouth syndrome.
If you would like more information on burning mouth syndrome, please check out the link provided below to a previous answer provided by Dr. Allen.
Otherwise, I would recommend that your mother schedule an appointment with an oral and maxillofacial pathologist to hopefully provide a more definite diagnosis and possibly treatment that could help reduce her mouth discomfort.
Good luck.
