Aristocort and Asthma06/28/2000 |
My wife recently was given a shot of Aristocort for her serious asthma. The dosage was 2cc IM. How long can she reasonbably expect the effects of this single injection will last? Also, is it wise to use here pulmicort inhaler during this time. Thanks for your help.
The effects of a depo-corticosteroid injection lasts about 3 weeks. During this time, your wife should continue her pulmacort. Depo-corticosteroid injections are not recommended as routine treatment for asthma because they have more serious potential side effects such as adrenal axis suppression. More often, for asthma exacerbations we use oral prednisone or medrol to intervene.
