12/28/2000

Question:

Can a woman who is over 65 and does regular weight bearing exercise gain bone density without taking calcium supplements?

Answer:

It is possible, although unlikely, that a postmenopausal woman on no medication or supplement to prevent bone loss can exercise sufficiently vigorously to prevent bone loss at all skeletal sites.
