Medication Options for Osteoporosis

07/26/2000

Question:

If I can`t take evista, what other options of medicine are available for osteoporosis. I tried the combi-patch and couldn`t use that either.

Answer:

The answer to your question depends on many factors such as your age, your present bone density, your general health and your risk factors for osteoporosis. For women with normal bone density or mild osteopenia and few risk factors a healthy diet, calcium, vitamin D, and exercise would suffice. For women who already have osteoporosis other medications such as Actonel, Fosamax, or Miacalcin are options depending on the woman`s particular situation. I would encourage you to discuss these options with your physician.
