A Special Diet for a Recovering Anorexic?

09/25/2000

Question:

Where can I find information on a diet for recovering anorexics?

Answer:

There isn`t a special diet for recovering anorexics per say as much as there is a certain pattern of eating, thinking and feeling which hopefully the patient has learned through therapy from both a registered dietitian (RD) and a psychologist. The meal plan should include progression of calories as per psychologists and RD suggest for weight gain and then as patient feels better, include other foods which may have been feared or excluded. The recovery process for disorder eating is long and there may be several falls back before recovery is complete. The patient should keep in touch with therapists, an RD, and physician. I hope this is helpful.
