Long distance running and hemorrhoids

09/26/2000

Question:

I am a marathon runner with a hemorrhoid problem. When I begin a long run, my hemorrhoids are internal but become external after running a few miles. They are extremely painful. Is there any non-surgical procedure I might try. Ambusol does not help. Thanks

Answer:

This question may be better answered by your personal physician. He or she may be able to suggest other prescription or over-the-counter medications which may provide you more comfort while running.
