Smoking and Tobacco
How many new smokers every year?
I am doing a research/analytical paper on smoking cessation and different prevention methods ... and I was just wondering if you knew how many people start smoking in a year and how many quit smoking in a year. If you could help me that would be greatly appreciated.
According to the Surgeon General`s recent report on Reducing Tobacco Use, more than 6,000 children and adolescents try smoking each day, and 3,000 become regular smokers. Epidemiologic data suggest that more than 70 percent of the 50 million smokers in the United States today have made at least one prior quit attempt, and approximately 46 percent try to quit each year. Most smokers make several quit attempts before they successfully kick the habit. Please view this report for more detailed information, at the site listed.
