Any help? What treatments are available?
Neuralgias, or painful disorders caused by malfuncitoning nerves, can be the result of many different causes. In some cases treating an underlying cause removes the pain. In others, medicines may provide good control. While most cases do not require surgery or other invasive types of treatment, there are procedures that may be helpful in certain cases where noninvasive treatment does not work. These include surgery to decompress a nerve, radiofrequency ablation of the nerve, or special types of radiation treatment, all of which are intended to reduce the pain signal coming from the nerve. The best treatment in a given situation is the one that gives satisfactory results with the least risk of side effects or other injury. Your doctor can decide this, or refer you to a neurologist, neurosurgeon, or other pain specialist for additional care if necessary.
