Hormone Imbalance & GERD
Can a hormone imbalance (menopause) contribute to GERD, and also, is nausea common with GERD? Thank you.
GERD is a very common problem in pregnancy and is thought to be related to the associated high blood levels of progesterone. In menopause, during which hormone levels decline, you would not expect GERD to be worse and in fact I am not aware of any study that has shown GERD to be precipitated or worsened during or after menopause. Nausea can be associated with GERD but it is definitely not a common symptom.
