Comparing Medications12/04/2000 |
What success have patient treated with exelon had as compared with those who were treated with aricept?
Hi! Thank you very much for sending us your question. One of our doctors, Dr. Alan Lerner has responded. "There have been no head-to-head comparisons done in a scientific way comparing the two medicines. Certainly, both pharmaceutical giants (Novartis and Pfizer) are busy comparing what they can, usually from retrospective, incomplete analyses. The two medications appear to have about the same effect on cognition and should have similar profiles with respect to activities of daily living, and behavior; the data is a little better fleshed out for Exelon than Aricept. The side effect profile of Aricept suggests that it will be a little better toloerated when given to a group of people, but there is much individual variation." We hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again. Thanks!
