What is Lupus
What is the difference between Lupus Erythematosus and Lupus Hephritis?
Can Lupus casue death? Can it be pervented?
1.Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease which can involve a lot of organ-systems in the body. Lupus nephritis refers to the Kidney involvement by lupus, which is one of the most serious manifestations and one who needs the more aggressive approach and treatment. To decide how `bad` the kidney involvement is, patients undergo a kidney biopsy. The biopsy helps decide how aggressive the treatment needs to be.
2. In the last years, due to improvement in diagnosis and management of lupus, the morbidity and mortality decreased a lot. In the recent literature it was considered that Lupus has a survival of 90% at ten years. Death can be prevented by appropriate management of the organ involvement and complications and closely following the patient in a Rheumatologist office.
