Digestive Disorders

Hirschsprungs disease

01/10/2001

Question:

After having hirschsprungs disease at birth and not having operation until age 19. How are the bowels affected in later years? I am now 66. Is any recurrence expected?

Answer:

In order to give you a more definitive answer it would be important to know what type of operation you had to correct the Hirschsprung`s. Hirschsprung`s is a congenital problem, therefore if it was definitively corrected surgically it would be unlikely to have a recurrence. At any rate if you have made it to age 66 without problems there is no reason to expect any in the future.
