Infections and IBS01/16/2001 |
I already knew what I read about IBS. I have ChronicFM/Deg.Disc Dis./Costochronditis/IBS. My question is this--three times this year I have had to take meds. for bladder/kidney/ear infections. Each time I was on the program my bowels began operating `daily` instaed of like every 10 days. Also no spasms or vomitting or sweating BUT what I think must `just be normal`. could you tell me why that occurs?
What you describe, a resolution of irritable bowel symptoms, during antibiotic treatment (I assume it was antibiotics that you took for your infections) is not a very common phenomenon. In fact I am not aware of any studies that have used antibiotics to treat IBS and I have never had any of my patients admit to such a response. In terms of your problems with infrequent bowel movements (constipation), diarrhea is a very common side effect of antibiotics and thus could be a possible cause of your improvement. I would also consider that if your symptoms improve with antibiotics that possibly you have some other GI problem in addition to the IBS.
