Myasthenia Gravis

Nutrition and MG Treatment

03/04/2001

Question:

Are there any nutritional therapies which increase the acetylcholine in the muscle receptors? Do you recommend any specific nutritional approach to relieve any of the symptoms of MG?

Answer:

A well-balanced diet with perhaps a standard vitamin supplement is all I recommend. Patients on prednisone need extra calcium and vitamin D. There is no specific dietary supplement to increase acetylcholine synthesis. You may also wish to review answers to similar questions regarding diet and go to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation where additional information exists regarding diet.
