Bulimia

03/26/2001

Question:

I`m doing a project on bulimia for health class... and I need a few questions answered. Thanks!

1) What causes bulimia?

2) How many teens a year are bulimic?

3) How often do people throw up that are bulimic?

4) How can you prevent bulimia?

Answer:

The cause for Bulimia has been researched for several years and the cause is not pinpointed to one specific incident but rather an assortment of thoughts, environment and self esteem issues. The number of adolescents and adults with bulimia is not able to be predicted due to the nature of the symptoms. Usually the person with bulimia hides the symptoms and others don`t notice so it is difficult to say how many people have bulimia. Prevention of symptoms of bulimia have been successful in helping young girls develop a better self-esteem and better body image and a better understanding of how to manage weight issues.
