Breast Feeding

Micronor or Breastfeeding = no menstral cycle

06/07/2001

Question:

My son is 9 1/2 months old, eating table foods very well, and I am still nursing alot. My OB-GYN put me on a birth control pill (Micronor) when my son was 2 months old. Everything seems to be going very well, except I still have not yet had a period. Is it normal to not have a period for this long. At what point do I get consered? Is it most likely due to breastfeeding or is it the perscriptions which instructs to continuiously take the pill without a break. Perhaps I should ask this question in a medication section?

Answer:

Congratulations on breastfeeding. You are giving your son a wonderful start in life. It is somewhat unusual not to have had some menses during the time you have been on Micronor. You should call your health care provider and discuss this with her.
