UTI`s and confusion in the elderly04/03/2002 |
I work with seniors and I know that Urinary Tract Infections (UTI`s) are known to cause altered mental state in the elderly, but I am trying to find information for one of my client`s family and I can`t find any facts to support something I have heard doctors say and that I have witnessed. Do you have any information regarding mental confusion as a symptom of UTI`s in the elderly?
Urinary tract infections can be associated with mental confusion especially if the infection is systemic and bacteria enter the blood stream. A simple bladder infection without fever or kidney involvement usually is not associated with mental changes.I hope this information is helpful to you.
