Bun/creatine before CT scan

09/26/2002

Question:

why is bun/creatinine blood test done before CT scan of abdomen?

Answer:

The BUN/Creatinine blood ratio is an indication the clinician uses to evaluate whether the blood volume is normal, too large for the heart to pump, or too little. It also is an indication of the amount of animal protein that is consumed by the patient. How the ratio is used depends upon the clinical situation at the time the test is ordered. I hope this answer is a help to you.
