Question:

To whom it may concern, I am writting a biology report on neurofibromatosis and i am required to have resources that are not from the internet. I seem to be having minor difficulties finding teh right information. Would you be able to send me information on any cures there might be for this genetic disease. If you cannot i understand but if you can it would be of great help. Thank you for your time.

Answer:

I do not have any materials that I would be able to send you regarding neurofibromatosis (NF).  I would suggest that you talk to your librarian about obtaining articles regarding NF.  Most of these will be in medical journals, which someone may need to help you with in understanding.  There was a very good review article published in 1997 in the Journal of the American Medical Association.  The citation is:

Gutmann DH, Aylsworth A, Carey JC, Korf B, Marks J, Pyeritz RE, Rubenstein A and Viskochil D.  (1997).  The diagnostic evaluation and multidisciplinary management of neurofibromatosis 1 and neurofibromatosis 2.  JAMA, 278(1):51-57.

There are some excellent websites for the public about NF.  The National Institute of Neurological Disorders at NIH, as well as the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation and Neurofibromatosis, Inc. have very good materials about NF.  Both the National NF Foundation and NF, Inc., have national offices.  You might contact them about receiving some written material.  They also may have local support group chapters that may have educational materials they would be able to give you.

Best of luck with your project.
