why do poeple smoke?
Ninety percent of regular smokers started smoking before 19 years of age, often in response to advertisements portraying a message that smoking is cool, hip, macho; that smoking is linked to being popular; that smoking has many benefits and no dangers. Children and teen smokers have been shown to have higher rates of poor self-image, low self-esteem, susceptibility to peer pressure, rebelliousness, ignorance of smoking-related adverse effects, depression, and anxiety. Once smoking is established, many people smoke to avoid nicotine withdrawal.
