ADD and Sleeping Disorders

Question:

I have a 15 year old son who has ADDHA. I am asking if he could have a sleeping disorder. He sleeps very hard and dose not dream. The doct put him on impramine hcl 25mg because he would wake up cranky and not rested. He is worried because he never remembers his dreams. Is this a concern we should check into. Thank you

Answer:

Although there appear to be some connections between how ADD presents and some sleep disorders, I am not familiar with a specific connection between ADD and recalling dreams. How much we recall about our dreams often depends on such things as the medications, herbs or supplements we are taking, chemicals such as alcohol or nicotine, amount of sleep we get, and levels of such mental health wellness indicators such as depression or anxiety. I encourage you and your son to speak with a medical/mental health professional about the specific causes of his concern.
