Polycythemia Vera and Carcinoid Tumor05/19/2003 |
My mother had polycythemia vera for years and developed sever complications about 6 yrs ago which resulted in her untimely death. We believe she may have developed leukemia as well but she would never confirm that with us. My younger sister was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor of the appendix about 3 years ago which was removed. Could my sister`s tumor have been directly r/t to my mother`s condition genetically somehow? Just Curious!
Based on my research, there does not appear to be a gene or set of genes that link polycythemia vera and carcinoid tumors.
