Developing an Implant for Alzheimer's Disease06/24/2003 |
I was told that Cleveland Channel 3/NBC did a piece on the treatment for Alzheimer's Disease on Sat. June 14, 2003. It had to do with a plastic item that was implanted in the brain to ease the effects of Alzheimer`s. This was 2nd hand information, of course and I wonder if something is being developed.
I am not familiar with the TV program you wrote about. The `plastic item` referred to, may have been a shunt that is placed in the brain and is theoretically thought to remove some of the plaques found floating in the cerebral spinal fluid formed by Alzheimer`s Disease. It is highly experimental and so far its effectiveness has only been demonstrated in animal models. Contact the television station if you need more information about their programming.
