In the case of meningitis causes by herpes simplex, what is the minimum time it would take intravenous antivirals to eliminate outwards signs of infections (such as the headache, light sensitivity, etc..)?
The time it takes to see a beneficial effect of acyclovir is variable and depends on a number of factors including the severity of the illness. The more severe the mental status changes the longer it may take to see any effect. In mild cases in which there is not a lot of mental status changes improvement should be noticed usually within three or four days. The time of recovery is highly variable.
