Reocurring sinus infections

09/15/2003

Question:

My son gets reoccurring sinus infections. One gets over and another starts. When he gets these infections, his tongue gets a white coating on it. His attitude and appetite changes. His tonsils and adnoids have been removed. He was constantly getting strep and his adnoids were huge. This has been going on since he was 2. He is now 10. The pediatrician does not know what causes the white coating on the tongue. We need help. He is tired of taking medicine

Answer:

I understand your frustration, and perhaps there are things that can be addressed in order to help prevent some or all of the recurrences of strep throat. The problem with questions on the computer is that I do not have access to his medical records or an ability to see him or his tongue. I understand that you are hoping to get a specific diagnosis, but that is more than I can provide online. Only a detailed history and physical exam by a health care professional can provide enough information to make a specific diagnosis. Please discuss your concerns with your health care provider and perhaps there is a specialist that you could be referred to for additional guidance.
