Proper Stomach Acid Levels10/06/2003 |
This is a quote from your Osteoporosis article..."Take a calcium carbonate supplement (whether Tums or something else) with a meal to make sure the acid level of the stomach is all right." What do you mean "all right."?
Gastric acid is secreted by the stomach to digest food. Taking a calcium supplement with food is thought to increase the chance of it dissolving well in the stomach because the food will stimulate the release of more gastric acid. Those people who are deficient in gastric acid would probably do better taking a calcium citrate product.
