Efficacy of Wobenzym N?10/31/2003 |
Does Wobenzym N when taken on an empty stomach reduce the build up of plaque on the walls of the arteries? If so which is the best supplier of this supplement? Will this product interact with coumadin or zestril (or their generic replacements)? Thank you for your help.
Wobenzym N refers to a branded product consisting of a number of different digestive enzymes. The product is sold through various suppliers that also sell other supplements. Wobenzym N is reportedly used for arthritis and other joint or muscle injuries. The label lists these ingredients in each tablet of Wobenzym N: 100 mg pancreatin, 24 mg trypsin, 1 mg chymotrypsin, 45 mg bromelain, 60 mg papain and 50 mg rutosid (rutin). There is no medical evidence that Wobenzym N is effective for arthritis or any other uses, including the reduction of plaque formation in blood vessels. The most common side effects reported with Wobenzym N use include increased gas, loose stools, and skin irritation. Because dietary supplements do not undergo the same types of clinical studies as prescription and over-the-counter medications, the risk of interactions is not well documented. Many different medications, dietary supplements, or herbal products may cause thinning of the blood. The use of any dietary supplement with warfarin therapy should be approached with caution. I would recommend that you discuss the use of Wobenzym N, or any other dietary or herbal supplement, with a physician or pharmacist in order to minimize any risk associated with use of your other medications.
