HYPOCALCEMIA AND MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS12/02/2003 |
Does Hypocalcemia produce damage or lesions in the brain that could be mistaken for multiple sclerosis? Our daughter has been dignosed with "likely multiple sclerosis". The impression from the Radiology Consultant on her MRI was "Extensive periventrucular and subcortical white matter foci of signal abnormaity are noted, which are very suspicious for a demyelinating process, likely multiple sclerosis". Would a MRI of this discription also be similar to what is seen in Hypocalcemia?
I am not a neuroradiologist, but hypocalcemia does not cause changes such as those described on an MRI scan, and would not be mistaken for multiple sclerosis.
