Is IBS the same as Crohns Disease?

12/08/2003

Question:

I just turned 29 yrs old and just have been diagnosed with IBS. My stomach has always given me problems through the years even as a child but all the doc`s said I was fine. I just found a new doc and he checked me and had done told me right then had IBS with the test he done. What I want to know is; Is IBS the same as Crohns Disease? I also want to know; When he checked me and found out I had IBS would he of known it wasnt Crohns disease or how could he tell? Is there other procedures he would need to do to see if it`s Crohns instead of IBS or just by doing blood work and a pap smear also ultra sound,he would of been able to tell? I was also diagnosed by him at the same time he told me I had IBS, that I also have moderate dysplasia(HPV)and next week he is gone do a LOOP Procedure to remove the abnormal cells would IBS have something to do with this?

Answer:
