Enamel problem01/15/2004 |
Hello. I am 51 years old and have a hereditary enamel deficiency problem. The emanel sort of melts off my teeth leaving sore sensitive spots. No dentist has ever been able to help me. Is there any such thing as being able to put enamel back on teeth? Thank you for your time.
The condition you describe looks similar to a condition known as "Amelogenesis Imperfecta." This is a hereditary condition as you said. Unfortunately, there is no way to build up natural enamel again as you implied, because enamel is one of the tissues in the body that does not regenerate. However, you may get help by having your dentist look into the possibility of making crowns to cover the affected teeth.
