Outside recess in cold temperatures02/03/2004 |
In cold temperatures, what is the state and or county requirements in which children in headstart programs should not be outside for recess?
According to the National Weather Service, in temperatures below 15 degrees, children should have a shortened recess, and in temperatures below 10 degrees, children should have indoor recess. These temperatures include the wind chill factor. It is up to the individual policy of each school in deciding at which temperature recess is modified. I suggest contacting your local Headstart program to obtain a specific policy.
