My Hairdresser Had A Bloody Finger, Do I Have HIV?

03/05/2004

Question:

As my hairdresser was cutting my hair, I noticed that his finger was cut and was bleeding moderately leaving blood on my hair. Should I be worried about contracting anything? Should I do anything preventative other than washing it out?

Answer:

Your risk of contracting HIV in this manner is extremely low. You have followed the right procedure by washing your hair thoroughly. If you are still worried you may speak to your physician about testing you for HIV to be absolutely sure.
