Blood vessels in sclera that won`t go away02/18/2004 |
about 6 weeks ago I accidentally pinched the sclera of my eye while attempting to remove my contac lens. While the pain has dissipated, it has left two blood vessels in the shape of a v in the sclera where the pinch occurred. Please help, I am very distressed and would like to know what I can do to make them dissipate. Also, although my doctor has mentione blanching drops, I am afraid to use them because I do not want to get a rebound effect. P.S. I have tried cold compresses and they do not help. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you
It sounds like you have a sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. This is when blood is trapped between the sclera and the conjunctiva. It will take 1-2 months to reabsorb completely. There is no definitive treatment; but to hasten reabsorption:
(1) don`t take any aspirin - it thins out your blood,
(2) use warm compresses over your eye at bedtime to dilate your blood vessels, and
(3) check your vision to be sure there is no blood inside your eye.
PS: Cold compresses are indicated during the first 24 hours to decrease blood vessel diameter (vasoconstriction) and limit blood in the area. But now that the blood is there, warm compresses will increase blood vessel diameter and help it to be reabsorbed.
