Anxiety and Stress Disorders

Side Effects of Effexor

06/17/2004

Question:

Is there a problem with the sun or heat while taking effexor? My husband can hardly take the heat or being out in the sun. This is really creating a problem, since his job requires outside work the majority of the time.

Answer:

All antidepressants have the possibility of affecting one's ability to tolerate heat through what are known as "anti-cholinergic side effects."  In general, these are very weak and mild with effexor.  I would encourage you to talk to the pharmacist for more details, and also to your physician.  Some other cause might be going on.
