Stress and Lightheadedness

07/26/2004

Question:

I have been feeling lightheaded and dizzy lately, sometimes I see spots and feel like vomiting. This has been going on for sometime now but, it does not occur everyday, but at least once a week. I have been under alot of stress lately and wonder if this is stress related. can you tell me what this may be?

Answer:

Certainly anxiety can produce physical symptoms, which include nausea and lightheadedness.  Stressful life situations exacerbate other medical problems, including anxiety and depression, and decrease immunity allowing more infections and other problems.

It is not possible to say that "stress" is causing these symptoms.  You need to see your primary care physician or provider and get checked out.  Be sure to mention the stress, as well as all the other physical problems.

Good Luck.
